Serious crash Lyell Highway

A 57 year old West Australian man has been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious but stable condition after having been involved in a crash with an unladen B Double rig on the Lyell Highway at Lawitta approximately 2.55pm on the 3rd of November 2010.

The injured man was driving a white Campervan in an easterly direction. He was approaching a sharp right hand curve. At this time an unladen B Double rig was exiting the bend. The 2nd trailer which was secured on the truck became uncoupled and swung onto the incorrect side of the road into the path of the oncoming campervan. The driver of the truck, a 40 year old man from Kempton, was not injured.

A passenger in the campervan, a 55 year old female also from West Australia, was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital suffering shock.

The road was closed for approximately 6 hours before it was cleared and open to traffic.

SES personnel assisted at the scene.

The investigator, Constable Michelle BURN from New Norfolk Police, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicles immediately prior to the incident.
