Serious Crash Launceston
Launceston Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred in Paterson Street in central Launceston on the evening of Saturday 1st October.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:00 PM and involved a gold coloured Nissan X-trail wagon that crashed into the side of the Launceston Library. The resulting collision caused significant structural damage to the building and resulted in part of a wall collapsing onto the footpath.
The vehicle has continued on Paterson Street following the collision where it has struck a parked vehicle, mounted the footpath before coming to rest against the side of a building on the southern side of the road.
Tasmania Police as well as Tasmania Fire Service personnel attended the scene. Initial investigations indicate that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the crash. There were no serious injuries to the driver of the vehicle.
Sergeant Greenwood of Tasmania Police stated “Police would like to speak with any members of the public who may have witnessed this vehicle driving prior to the crash by contacting Launceston Police Station on 6777 3945.”
