Serious crash involving truck and pedestrian in Burnie

A 56-year-old woman was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a crash in Burnie just after 9am this morning.

The woman was walking in an easterly direction across the junction of Cattley and Wilson streets when she was struck by a truck turning right into Wilson St from Cattley St driven by a 59-year-old man.

Nearby police who witnessed the crash immediately attended to the injured pedestrian and requested additional resources to assist. The truck driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene.

Units from Western RPOS, Burnie Uniform, Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended. The junction was closed to traffic while the scene was marked and photographed. Investigations are continuing.

Police urge motorists to take extra care around busy areas such as schools and town centres where there may be more pedestrians, especially as children are starting or returning to school.
