Serious crash involving laden b double log truck rig on Lyell Highway at Murphy’s Flats on Monday 5 March 2018

Tasmania Police and Emergency Services attended a crash on the Lyell Highway at Murphy’s Flats at approximately 12.50pm on Monday the 5th day of March 2018.

The crash occurred when a white coloured Toyota Camry sedan negotiating a right hand curve crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with the front of a Volvo B double rig which was being driven in the opposite direction.

The driver and sole occupant of the Camry a 34 year old male believed to be from New Norfolk was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital by Road Ambulance.  His condition is stated as critical and stable.

The driver and sole occupant of the B double rig a 63 year old man from Old Beach wasn’t physically injured.

The B double rig came to rest totally blocking the entire road.  Pine logs from the rig were strewn over the road and surround.

Heavy machinery and vehicles were brought into the scene to right and remove the vehicles involved and also to remove the pine logs.  The road was closed well into the evening.

Investigating police are appealing for witnesses who may have observed the crash or seen the vehicles immediately preceding the incident.
