About 5.40am yesterday, Wednesday, 1 January 2014, ambulance and police personnel responded to an alleged assault in Bayview Road, Lauderdale.

Upon arrival an unconscious man, aged 24 years of Lauderdale, was located on the footpath approximately 50 metres from the junction of Wateredge Court.  The man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with apparent head injuries.  He is currently in a stable condition.

Uniform police, Forensic and CIB personnel attended the scene.  A number of witnesses were able to assist police in their enquiries.

Uniform officers located a 22 year old Sandford man nearby who was taken into custody.

Detectives from Hobart and Bellerive CIB later charged the 22 year old Sandford man with Grievous Bodily Harm and he was bailed with conditions to first appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 11 February 2014.

It will be the police case that both men were known to each other and prior to the alleged assault that they had been celebrating New Years together.
