Shortly after 5pm Monday 24 February 2014 police attended a serious assault that had occurred on the street on St Helens Point Road Stieglitz.

During an altercation between two men one has been struck to the head with a piece of wood rendering him unconscious.

Tasmania Ambulance attended and as the victim’s condition continued to deteriorate he was flown by Air Ambulance to Hobart.

The 35 year old victim from St Helens remains in a critical condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The 21 year old offender was arrested at the scene and taken to Launceston Police Headquarters where he was later interviewed, charged and detained for court at 11.30am on Tuesday 25 February 2014.
