A 25 year old woman from Leslie Vale is in the Royal Hobart Hospital following a three (3) vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway (Midway Point Causeway) at approximately 9.25am on Friday the 7th day of March 2014.

The woman was the driver of a grey BMW X5 vehicle which was travelling in an easterly direction along the highway from Cambridge towards Midway Point.  Whilst travelling on the ‘Midway Point Causeway’ the BMW has veered across the intermittent white line onto the incorrect side of the road.  It has collided head-on with a white Isuzu truck which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The BMW has then struck a white Ford Ranger utility which was travelling west bound behind the truck.  The driver of the BMW and her 34 year old male passenger were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance. The woman’s condition is reported as serious.

The driver of the truck a 44 year old male from Taroona and his 51 year old male passenger were not injured.  The driver and sole occupant of the Ford Ranger utility a 53 year old male from Orielton was also uninjured.

The Tasman Highway between Midway Point and the Airport roundabout was closed for approximately 4 hours whilst investigations into the crash were made and the scene was cleared.

The investigator, Constable Tony GOUGH of Sorell Police, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicles beforehand.
