Security warning for Northern businesses
Tasmania Police have increased patrols in response to a recent rise in the number of burglaries committed on businesses in the George Town, Scottsdale and Bridport area in the past week.
“Whilst the number of burglaries in this area is traditionally very low, there has been an increase in burglaries committed on business premises in the past week,” said Acting Inspector Keane of George Town.
“The burglaries are being committed in the early hours of the morning and police numbers and patrol hours and been extended to combat this rise. Local officers and detectives from Launceston are also actively following a number of lines of enquiry.”
Police would like to remind business owners to ensure that dead-locks are placed on all their doors and windows and valuables are secured in sturdy and locked cabinets or safes.
“Unfortunately, the offenders’ task at some businesses was made far easier when windows were left unlocked and car keys left in the ignitions of unlocked company vehicles,” said Acting Inspector Keane.
Police request that anyone who may have any information relating to these burglaries contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Launceston CIB on (03) 6336 3911.
