Searches continue for two missing people in State’s south
An extensive search continues today for a 66-year-old man missing in the Duckhole Lake Track area at Strathblane since Saturday afternoon.
Police, SES, family members and some volunteers will again take part in the search today for Mr Bruce Fairfax.
Inspector David Wiss, who is in charge of the search, said that about 30 searchers, featuring specialist Police and SES officers trained in Search and Rescue, searching further into the dense bushland.
“Tasmania Police would like to thank the overwhelming number of volunteers who have come forward to help over the last four days. They have done a fantastic job in searching and researching the area which also contains some impenetrable terrain,” he said.
“Today’s search is moving into a different phase which is focusing on using smaller scale specialist police and SES resources. Search controllers are focusing on coordinating these specialist resources.”
Meanwhile, the search for a 55 year old woman who is believed to have fallen from a boat in the Lymington area since Saturday also continues today.
“Police will be searching using a police vessel as well as on foot on the shore. Jet skis from Surf Life Saving Tasmania are also being used in the extensive search,” Inspector Wiss said.
