Search for missing bushwalkers at Scotts Peak
Police and SES are currently conducting a land and air search for two missing bushwalkers in the Scotts Peak area at Lake Pedder.
The father and son, aged 42 and 13 from Hobart, are camping at Huon Camp Ground at Scotts Peak and were due back yesterday afternoon from a bushwalk.
They were reported overdue shortly before 8pm last night.
Their intention was to do day walks in the area but the walking log yesterday indicates they were planning to do a Western Arthurs traverse which takes several days.
Search co-ordinator, Sergeant Chris Williams, said:
“We are doing everything we can to locate the father and son as quickly as possible.
“A large-scale land search is underway, involving police and SES land search crews.
“Both our Westpac Rescue Helicopters are currently searching the area.
“Their tent, car and wet weather gear has been located at the campground.
“We have significant concerns for their safety due to the fact they are ill-equipped for the cold and wet conditions and they have little bushwalking experience,” he said.
A police search forward command post has been set up at Lake Pedder Wilderness Lodge.
