Search for missing person – Liffey
Around 5pm on Friday, 12th June 2020, police were alerted that a woman in her 50’s from Myrtle Creek Road, Liffey had wandered off from her home around 3.15pm and had not returned. The woman was suffering an illness which manifested as severe dementia-like symptom, including her inability to be aware of her current surroundings.
Weather conditions were poor with light rain and cold temperatures. Low cloud prevented the use of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to aid in the search so volunteers from Northern State Emergency Service along with members of Tasmania Police Search and Rescue were called in to help search for the woman.
Search conditions were extremely difficult given the thick bushland surrounding the property. Fortunately, the woman was later located safe and well by a neighbour some 600 m from the house and returned around 9.00 pm. Seven SES and nine police took part in the search and rescue operation.
