Search for lost walker near Mount Anne – update (23 Oct)

Tasmania Police are continuing to search the Mount Anne area in Southwest National Park for missing bushwalker 37 year old Blackmans Bay man Xavier Lane-Mullins.

After camping alone in the Scotts Peak Road/Condominium Creek campsite, Mr Mullins left his camp to set out for a day walk at 6:30am on Thursday 22 October 2015. At 3:15pm that afternoon he contacted Tasmania Police by mobile phone, advising he was lost somewhere near Mount Anne and his battery was running flat. Contact with his mobile phone was lost soon afterwards.

Mr Mullins is believed to be wearing a raincoat, thermals and shorts at the time. Inclement weather is hampering search efforts.

Land-based search and rescue police, assisted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the State Emergency Service are currently searching the walking tracks and bush around Mount Anne.

“We’re making every effort to locate Mr Mullins,” Inspector Lee Renshaw said.

Meanwhile, police are asking anyone was in the Mount Anne area yesterday and may have seen or spoken to Mr Mullins to contact New Norfolk police on 131 444. Anyone who may have any other relevant information is also encouraged to contact police.
