Search for bushwalker suspended
The operation to find a missing New South Wales bushwalker has been suspended after four days of intensive searching.
Tasmania Police deployed the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, a search dog, Search and Rescue officers and SES volunteers along with the assistance of numerous volunteers in the search for Paul Stephen Wilson.
There has been no sign of 49 year old Mr Wilson, whose whereabouts are not known since the morning of Monday 26 March.
He is believed to have set out on a bushwalk at Mount Field East walking track on Lake Dobson Road. It is not certain how long Mr Wilson has been in the bush, but it’s likely he started the walk on Monday.
“Every effort has been made to find Mr Wilson and we have searched the area several times both on the ground and by air,” said Inspector Stuart Scott.
“In our review of the search we have sought the advice of medical professionals with expertise in bushwalking and exposure and advice to police is there is no longer the possibility of finding Mr Wilson alive.”
The search for Mr Wilson has been suspended pending any further information on his whereabouts.
Tasmania Police have been in regular contact with Mr Wilson’s family in New South Wales to keep them updated on the operation.
Police request that anyone who has further information which may assist them in locating Mr Wilson to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
