Search continues for missing men in waters off Cremorne

The search for two missing men in waters near Cremorne in Southern Tasmania is continuing this morning, focusing on Norfolk Bay.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a number of police vessels, including Dauntless and Van Diemen, are continuing their extensive search for the two remaining missing men who failed to return from a fishing trip on Sunday.

Inspector Lee Renshaw said that the search would also focus on the area north of Lime Bay State Reserve into the Seven Mile Beach area near Tiger Head Bay.

It follows the tragic discovery on Monday of the bodies of two men who were also on the fishing trip.

The four men – a 33 year old, a 32 year old and a 26 year old, all from Hobart, and a 35 year old from New Zealand – were reported missing by a family member about 6.45pm on Sunday night.

The men, who left on their fishing trip in a 16 foot fibreglass vessel about 7am on Sunday, were believed to have access to lifejackets but were not carrying an EPIRB.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner regarding the incident. Our thoughts are with the families involved.
