Search and rescue update #3

A Brisbane man bushwalking in the Lake Petrarch area near Lake St Clair has been rescued by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter a short time ago.

The man, in his mid-40s, was evacuated and returned Derwent Bridge after activating a personal locator beacon this afternoon.

“The man is an experienced bushwalker but he experienced difficulties due to severe weather conditions,” Acting Inspector Phil Curtis said.

“This reinforces the current dangerous conditions in some parts of the state at the moment and members of the public should consider their need to travel into these areas affected by bad weather at the moment.”

Meanwhile, dangerous weather conditions are continuing to hamper a police search for an overdue walker in the Cradle Mt/Lake St Clair National Park.

Three police search and rescue teams, a police marine vessel and a team of SES volunteers, are currently searching for 57 year old Victorian man, Michael Bowman of Mt Waverley, who is an experienced bushwalker.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Bowman in the Cradle Mt/Lake St Clair National Park is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
