Police are investigating the cause of a fatal crash at Sassafras this afternoon. 

Around 12.10pm emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a station wagon vehicle and a motorcycle near the intersection of Bass Highway and Native Plains Road. 

Sadly, the rider of the motorcycle, a woman in her 40s, died at the scene of the crash. The pillion passenger on the motorcycle, a 9-year-old, sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital. 

The driver of the vehicle was not physically injured. 

Police are conducting a crash investigation and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
