Rosny College students have won first and second prizes in the Road Safety Week competition.

Sam Freeman won the first prize of $5000 for his video advertisement about friends organising a night out that goes wrong

Georgia Stone student was runner-up for her ad about the consequences of inattention.

She won five RACT driving lessons and a Roadside Assistance package.

Entrants, who had to be aged between 16 and 19, were asked to make a 30-second road safety video advertisement.

Road Safety Advisory Council Chair Jim Cox announced the winner at Rosny College today.

“This is the third year we’ve run this competition and the standard gets better every year. There are a lot of talented budding film-makers out there,” Mr Cox said.

Mr Cox said the competition gave young Tasmanians the chance to show their creative talent and learn more about road safety.

“We hope it gave all entrants, and the people who have seen the finalists’ work on the Police Facebook page, the chance to think about using the road safely, and acting on it.”

Sgt Steve Dine said the competition and Road Safety Week was an opportunity to promote safe and responsible road behaviour.

“I am sure the film-makers gave a lot of thought to road safety while they were working on this project. Anything that gets people thinking about road safety is a good thing,” he said.
