Rock lobster pots seized
On Monday 7 March 2011 Northern District Marine personnel seized a number of rock lobster pots from two recreational fishermen who had been fishing on the East Coast near Ansons Bay.
A 46 year old man from George Town and a 45 year old man from Sidmouth will be summonsed to appear in court in relation to offences against the Rock Lobster Rules. It is alleged the fishermen were using 7 pots.
Some other offences are being investigated in relation to the seizure and infringement notices may be issued to more recreational fishermen as a result.
Recreational fisherman possessing a licence are allowed to possess and use one rock lobster pot each on state waters at any time. The total value of the seized pots is estimated at approximately $1,500.
