A road weather alert has been issued for Tasmanian Roads by the Bureau of Meteorology advising that heavy rain may cause slippery driving conditions, flash flooding and reduced visibility in the state.

Flash flooding in the eastern half of the state is also a concern with the water covering roads resulting in a number of road closures.

The road weather alert warning applies to Northern, Central and Eastern roads. Conditions are expected to ease this evening.

These are conditions and circumstances that require extra care by all motorists and the most important safety action that can be taken is to slow down. Some further safety measures recommended when driving in adverse weather conditions are:

• Be alert at all times, paying attention to road warning signs that display hazardous conditions information;
• Drive with headlights or park lights on at times of poor visibility;
• Ensure your windscreen is clean and is demisted, and wiper blades are in good condition;
• Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you. Your stopping distance will need to be increased if the road is wet.
