A motorcycle rider has had his bike seized by police after he was caught travelling at 159km/h on the Bass Highway on an unregistered and uninsured Harley Davidson yesterday afternoon.

Members of Western Road Policing Services were conducting routine patrols when the rider was detected east of Sulphur Creek about 3.20pm.

The rider was already disqualified from driving when he was intercepted.

His bike was seized for 28 days, and he was charged with multiple offences including excessive speeding, driving whilst disqualified, and having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. 

He was bailed to appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.

Inspector Adam Spencer said police would continue to proactively patrol both highways and rural roads.

“Speeding endangers the lives of everyone using our roads,” he said.

“While most people do the right thing, our officers from our Road Policing Services are out every day targeting the minority who are doing the wrong thing and putting lives at risk.”
