Tasmania Police intends to review guidelines relating to the use of OC spray.

“It will also look at the guidelines of interstate jurisdictions, particularly how they relate to the deployment of OC spray on minors,” said Acting Assistant Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Glenn Frame.

“While this matter has been reviewed from time to time – and every deployment is subject to review – it is our intention to conduct a full review to ensure the guidelines remain contemporary.

“This review will be separate to the investigation into the incident at Shorewell on Australia Day, however that investigation will consider whether the use of OC spray on that occasion was in accordance with the current guidelines.”
