Results from Sorell Firearms Amnesty

A number of items were surrendered to police at a Firearms Amnesty in Sorell today. Items included:

  • 17 firearms
  • Approximately 10kg of ammunition

“Today’s amnesty at Sorell saw 17 illegal and unwanted firearms surrendered to police,” said Senior Sergeant Ben Duffey.

“Any illicit firearm is a concern to Tasmania Police, and mobile firearms amnesties such as this encourage Tasmanians to hand in any illegal and unwanted items to police, without fear of being prosecuted for the possession.”

“This helps to ensure the items don’t end up in the wrong hands.”

“Tasmania has a permanent firearms amnesty where people can surrender items at any time by calling police beforehand to arrange collection or drop off.”
