Response to Police Association claims
The Department of Police and Emergency Management has rejected claims that shift staffing levels in Radio Dispatch Services have been decreased.
The Department is committed to providing a safe work environment. There has been no change to the well-established demand driven staffing model introduced in 2011.
This model matches staffing resources to the peak times for demand on policing services.
There has also been no reduction in staff numbers in RDS. Since 2009, RDS has been staffed by 59 Full Time Equivalent positions.
The concerns of the Police Association have been reviewed; on one occasion an oversight led to a delay in a supervisor calling in two staff to replace staff on sick leave.
This was an isolated incident; RDS supervisors ensure rosters are demand driven and provide an appropriate number of staff to adequately manage work demands.
