Reptile seizure

Tasmania Police with assistance from a Wildlife Ranger attended an address at Bridgewater on Saturday 17 September and seized a number of reptiles.

Amongst them were two Tiger Snakes and a large Lace Monitor Lizard.

Acting Sergeant Christopher Lovell of the Bridgewater Police Station stated that it was an offence under the Wildlife Regulations to be in possession of Tiger Snakes without a permit.

It is also illegal to bring into Tasmania or have possession of a Lace Monitor Lizard which is a non native species without written authority or licence.  Substantial fines may be issued to anyone found guilty of offences against these Acts.

The animals were seized and are now being held by licensed reptile handlers until investigations are completed.
