Recovery of Decomposed Body – Update
UPDATE
Earlier today Police were able to get confirmation of the identity of the deceased. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident.
RECOVERY OF DECOMPOSED BODY
At approximately 10pm on Tuesday 26 May 2015, Tasmania Police recovered a partially decomposed body from the water adjacent the Elizabeth Street Pier, Hobart.
Two divers attached to a local dive club were on a night dive when they discovered the body around 8pm. The divers immediately notified police and provided particulars of the discovery.
The body is believed to be male and was recovered in approximately 10 metres of water by police divers. A search of the immediate underwater area failed to locate any items of interest.
The Southern District Duty Inspector, Inspector Adrian Bodnar said, ‘At this stage, the circumstances surrounding the death are unclear. Further investigations will continue during Wednesday 27 May 2015, directed towards establishing the identity of the deceased and cause of death. Investigations will include an examination by the state pathologist’.
