Recovered Stolen Firearms

A 32 year old man has been charged with firearms offences following the seizure of a number of stolen firearms from a Moonah residence yesterday.

On Friday 2 February 2018, detectives and uniform members from Glenorchy and Bridgewater divisions executed a search warrant at an address in Moonah as part of an ongoing investigation relating to a number of stolen firearms.

As a result, a number of firearms, including rifles and shot guns were recovered. These firearms were stolen from a property in December 2017.

A 32 year old man was taken into custody at the residence without incident and has been charged with firearms offences.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.

“This coincides with the ongoing focus on recidivist offenders and the continued success of Operation Saturate which focuses on volume crime offenders,” Detective Sergeant Ben Duffy said.

“Tasmania Police is committed to locating and removing illegally obtained firearms in the community and prosecuting offenders who continue to commit firearms offences.”
