Rebels OMCG update
Police are continuing to investigate an alleged serious assault at the Rebels OMCG Clubhouse in Burnett St, Hobart.
Investigators, including Forensic Science Service Tasmania, were at the scene yesterday and will remain there again today.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Assistant Commissioner Glenn Frame said.
“I can also confirm that police were called to assist the staff of a Qantas (Hobart to Melbourne) flight around 5:20pm last night.
The incident involved members of the Rebel Outlaw Motor Cycle club and resulted in 2 members being removed from the flight and 4 others removed themselves.
“No violence occurred on the flight and no one was injured. However, police were called to escort the two male passengers from the plane due to their intimidating behaviour towards a member of Qantas staff,” Assistant Commissioner Frame said.
The 2 men were not charged with any offence and were permitted to book alternate flights.
“The Rebels is an organised criminal organisation and we’re making sure they understand that criminal and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in our state.
“There is significant evidence that Rebels members are connected with serious offences relating to drug trafficking and violence. Their impact on the community may not be overt but they do not contribute to making Tasmania a place where people feel and are safe.”
While a large number of Rebels members have left the state, police continue to closely monitor the activities of the remaining members of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang still in the State.
“These members are due to leave the State over the coming days. We will continue to monitor their activities as a matter of priority.”
Offences detected so far include:
- 4 x positive Oral Fluid Test (cocaine x 2, methamphetamine, amphetamine)
- 2 x knives forfeited (dangerous article in a public place);
- 1 x exceed 0.05 (0.081);
- 2 x members was identified carrying suspected steroids;
- 1 x member was identified carrying suspected cannabis residue;
- 1 x member was identified carrying suspected MDMA residue; and
- 12 x Australian Tax Office Assessment notices were also served on Rebels OMCG members
Police continue to conduct vehicle checks, targeted drug and alcohol testing, monitoring for anti-social and criminal behaviour and traffic operations.
Tasmania Police rostered on a significant number of additional officers to assist with this operation.
