At around 5pm Thursday 13/3/14 the bushland South/East of Tandara Street, Ravenswood was deliberately set alight. The fire was contained by Tasmania Fire Service through a controlled burn of the surrounding vegetation.  No properties were in danger, but Ravenswood was blanketed by thick smoke for several hours.

A suspect was identified and police located him near the scene a short time later.  He was arrested and taken to the Launceston police station.

The suspect was questioned by police and later charged with lighting the fire.

The suspect was also charged over a $200,000 house fire which occurred in Rosetta Place, Ravenswood on 20/12/2013. 

The suspect is a 23 year old male from Ravenswood.  He was charged with one count of arson and one count of unlawfully settng fire to vegetation and will appear at the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11:30am 14/3/14.  Police will be opposing bail.
