Provisional Driver Detected at 180kmh on East Tamar Highway
On the 17th of December 2014 at about 11:15pm police from the Northern Road and Public Order Services section detected a 17 year old youth travelling at 180km/h in a 100km/h zone on the East Tamar Highway at Dilston.
The driver is the holder of a first year provisional driver licence and was travelling 100km/h in excess of the 80km/h speed restriction for first year provisional licence holders. The driver will face court in relation to the excessive speed and has had his motor vehicle clamped for a period of 28 days.
Police would like to remind drivers that excessive speed is one of the main contributing factors in serious and fatal crashes.
Constable David Eaton expressed concern and disgust over the driver’s flagrant disregard for the speeding laws which put other road users at high risk.
