Protestors at Hobart Wharf
At 5.30am on Thursday, 12 January 2012 members of the Huon Environment Centre initiated protest action by preventing the loading of veneer timber to a ship moored at Macquaries No. 3 Wharf at Hobart.
Three (3) activists climbed over the wire fencing on the northern side of the wharf and entered into the prohibited area. Three (3) protesters secured themselves to the under-carriage of a prime mover, which was parked adjacent to the ship. They were later released without incident or injury.
Those arrested include:
- 30 year old man from Newcastle, New South Wales;
- 37 year old man from New South Wales; and
- 32 year old female from Lucaston
The alleged offenders were charged with the offence of trespass and released on bail with conditons.
They have been bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court at 9.30am on 20 February 2012.
1.5 hours in lost working time occurred for Monson Shipping Company in the loading of the ship.
