Protest arrests
About 7am today Tasmania Police were advised that a group of people had unlawfully entered the Gunns pulp mill site at Long Reach.
Police attended and found 8 people attached to various pieces of earth moving machinery including excavators and dozers. Several different types of lock on devices were used including chains, metal enclosed thumb locks and metal pipe wrist locks.
Specialist police used metal cutting equipment to remove each person from the machinery. They were then arrested and taken to the George Town Police Station where they were charged with trespass and bailed with conditions not to return to the pulp mill site.
Specific earth works were delayed for approximately five hours as a result of the protest action.
Nine people – three men and six women – will be proceeded against for trespass.
