Policing this Festive Season – Hobart Waterfront activities
Don’t ruin your Christmas with a decision that you will regret, is the message this festive season.
“This relates to driving behaviour; it relates to personal behaviour and it relates to the behaviour of your mates,” said Hobart Divisional Inspector David Plumpton.
“With the many Christmas and New Year Festivities occurring throughout Hobart and in particular the Waterfront, it’s timely to remind people of their obligations to others, and themselves, when considering the day, evening or night out,” he said.
“At this time of the year we have an increased police presence with all Hobart members working over the Christmas/New Year period. Rosters are planned to ensure the maximum number of police officers are present and monitoring events and behaviour throughout Hobart,” said Inspector Plumpton.
“There will be a highly visible police presence around entertainment districts this Festive Season. Our aim is to ensure the safety of everyone and we will maintain law and order to achieve that,” he said.
“We don’t want poor decision makers to ruin the occasion for others.”
“Please party responsibly; share the night with someone who is a positive role model or make the hard decisions before you go out, and organise your transport options and limit your spending capacity.
It is very easy to over-indulge but over-indulgence is not an excuse for violent anti-social behaviour.
“Police will not tolerate any form of anti-social behaviour that impacts on others enjoying a social day or evening,” he said.
A mobile police station will be set up within the perimeter of the Taste of Tasmania for the duration of the festival.

If you are planning to enjoy the festival with a few beverages please don’t drive.
State-wide, Tasmania Police will be targeting known hotspots for drink and drug drivers.
“Police will be patrolling the entertainment districts and the alternative routes out of towns and cities. Don’t make a decision you will come to regret,” he said.
