Policing at the international cricket match on Friday
Tasmania Police is gearing up its response to the international cricket Day/Night match this Friday. Although the event will be managed by the Bellerive Division, around 50 officers from varying stations will be deployed to maintain order, public safety and manage traffic.
During the game, anyone behaving in a disorderly manner may be arrested and/or ejected from the ground. Intoxicated persons will be refused entry to the premises.
As well as a strong presence inside the ground during the game, police will also patrol the surrounding suburbs during and after the event to curb any anti-social behaviour.
A traffic management plan will be implemented immediately after the game to allow patrons to leave the area as quickly and effectively as possible. The majority of traffic will be directed south on Clarence street to the Shoreline roundabout. This plan will also give priority access to the Metro Tasmania ‘Boundary Rider’ park and ride service which is an initiative to reduce traffic congestion around the oval.
Police will also enforce parking regulations. Last week at the state 20/20 game, 12 infringement notices were issued in relation to parking, particularly contravening bus parking zones. Officers will also be vigilant to exceeding parking time limits and parking on nature strips.
“The 20/20 game was an excellent example of 6100 people enjoying a game of cricket, with no alcohol related issues. We hope the crowd at this game can enjoy the same benefits,” said Acting Inspector Jason Hutcheon.
