Police urge people to celebrate New Years Eve responsibly
Tasmania Police are encouraging people celebrating New Year’s Eve tonight to do so responsibly.
“Police will have proactive patrols in the entertainment areas of Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie tonight to make sure everyone can celebrate New Year’s Eve in a safe environment,” said Acting Inspector Darren Latham from Hobart Police.
“If you’re planning on drinking please remember to celebrate safely, look after your mates, and plan a safe way home.
“The risk of anti-social behaviour is higher when groups of people consume alcohol together and we’re urging everyone to drink responsibly.
“We’ll have high-visibility police patrols at entertainment areas and licensed premises across the state to deter alcohol-related offences and violence.
“We want everyone to have a good time and encourage people not to over indulge and let their behaviour ruin the night for others.
“Enjoy your celebrations and please never drive in you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
