Police seize vehicle after man caught speeding in Elizabeth Town
A 31-year-old Devonport man has had his vehicle confiscated by police after being caught speeding on the Bass Highway at Elizabeth Town this afternoon.
Police intercepted the driver after he was detected travelling at 175km/hr in a 110km/hr zone.
The man has had his vehicle seized for 28 days and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Senior Constable Thomas Moir from Deloraine Police said the man’s actions put the lives of other road users at risk.
“Speeding is a major contributing factor in serious and fatal crashes in Tasmania,” he said.
“This behaviour is particularly disappointing given the tragedies we have seen on our roads in recent weeks.”
“Police are committed to keeping our community safe, which is why we’re continuing to patrol roads right across the state.”
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we need Tasmanians to take it seriously.”
