Police seize illegal firearms and charge two offenders over armed robbery
Northern CIB has seized three illegal firearms and charged two offenders over an aggravated armed robbery in Invermay.
Police were called to an address in Eddington Crescent, Invermay, about 7pm on Sunday where two men allegedly threatened and assaulted a 50 year old male occupant by hitting him to the head and stealing a chainsaw and a small amount of cash.
At the time of the robbery, one man was in possession of a pistol in the front of his trousers. The victim and one of the offenders were known to each other.
Northern CIB interviewed and charged a 36 year old Mayfield man with Aggravated Armed Robbery and firearms offences. The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Launceston Supreme Court on 2 September.
Yesterday Northern CIB detectives in company with police officers from the Raptor Task Force executed a search warrant at premises in Killafaddy Road, St Leonards. During that search, police recovered three firearms, ammunition, a significant quantity of cannabis and stolen property.
A 34 year old man who is an occupant of those premises was arrested and charged with Aggravated Armed Robbery in relation to the incident at Invermay. In addition he has been charged with Trafficking cannabis, Possessing Stolen Firearms and other related Firearms Offences, as well as charges in relation to his possession of stolen property.
The man will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.
