Police Seeking assistance following arrest of intoxicated male driving on Midlands Highway at Oatlands

Tasmania Police are seeking assistance from the public concerning the manner of driving of a Mitsubishi Triton that was observed driving dangerously on the Midland Highway near Oatlands on Saturday the 8th July 2023.

Sen Sgt John Parker of Oatlands Police said that police received a call from another motorist at approximately 3.15pm, resulting in police intercepting the male driver at Oatlands a short time later. Sen. Sgt Parker said, “Whilst officers were obtaining the drivers licence details of the man, he drove off at speed and in a dangerous manner in a southerly direction on the Midlands Highway. The male evaded Police who lost sight of the vehicle. The male later crashed his vehicle on Mudwalls Road, several kilometres north of Colebrook. No other vehicles were involved, and the male was not injured.”

Sen. Sgt Parker said Police located the male at the crash site, where he was arrested and subsequently submitted to a breath analysis. He returned a reading of 0.173 and was charged with Exceeding 0.05 and Aggravated Evade of Police.

The 40-year-old Newnham male has been disqualified for 12 months and is to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 4th September 2023.

Oatlands Police would like to speak to any persons who observed a white Mitsubishi Triton fitted with a fibreglass canopy on the rear of it, travelling on the Midlands Highway near Oatlands, and then on Mudwalls Road, between 3pm and 4pm.
