Police are responding to an incident in Blackwood Court, Port Sorell, in north-west Tasmania.

A man believed to be armed with a knife has barricaded himself inside a residence.

There are no other occupants inside the house.

Motorists are advised that Blackwood Court will remain closed while police respond to the incident.

Nearby residences are being evacuated as a precaution until the incident is resolved.
