Police renew call for witnesses to Hobart firearms incident
As part of the ongoing investigation into a Hobart firearms incident, police would like to speak to two people who were standing on the intersection of Bathurst Street and Watchorn Street around 12:06am Sunday morning who may have seen the offenders.
After multiple shots were discharged into the door of Pablo’s Cocktails and Dreams from a high powered rifle, two offenders were seen fleeing the scene on foot through Harrington Lane, heading north on Harrington Street and then east along Bathurst Street.
Evidence suggests the first offender stopped midway along Bathurst Street, between Harrington and Watchorn Street, waited for the second offender to run up to them, before the pair continued walking east.
Investigators are keen to speak with two potential witnesses who were standing on the intersection of Bathurst Street and Watchorn Street, and then walked west on Bathurst Street. A potential third witness briefly crossed the road to a laneway adjacent to Elite Appliances before returning to the group.
Investigators believe these potential witnesses may have observed the suspects walk past them and are urging them to contact police.
One offender was described as:
- male up to 40 years of age
- red facial hair
- 5 foot 7 inches – 6 foot in height
- thick set/muscly build
- wearing a long sleeve black top, black tradies trousers and black boots.
The second was described as wearing a dark or grey coloured top and dark jeans.
The ongoing police investigation is following particular lines of enquiry and suggests the incident was targeted. Police searching the scene following the incident located a firearm and ammunition nearby.
Anyone who has dash-cam footage of the Harrington and Bathurst Street areas around the time of the incident, or information in relation to the incident, is urged to contact Hobart CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperstas.com.au
