Police presence at 2018 Devonport Cup
Tasmania Police will again have a proactive and highly visible police presence at the Devonport Cup at Tapeta Park, Spreyton tomorrow. Police will be conducting various activities in and around the event including, public order, licensing and traffic duties.
Acting Inspector Martin Parker said that as in previous years, police had liaised with the Devonport Racing Committee to help plan for the event and are anticipating a large crowd to attend.
“Police would like patrons to enjoy the day in a relaxed and family friendly atmosphere and remind people that if they’re consuming alcohol they know their limits, consume it responsibility and be considerate of others,” Acting Inspector Parker said.
“We’ll be working in conjunction with security officers to ensure everyone has a good time, safely, and as such anti-social behaviour won’t be tolerated. We want people to enjoy themselves, and that means getting home safely. Patrons should arrange safe transport to and from the venue and don’t drink and drive.”
Proactive police patrols will occur in the Devonport entertainment areas after the races to deter alcohol-related violence and offences.
