Police officer charged with drink driving
A Tasmania Police officer has been charged with drink driving.
The officer, who was off duty and in a private car, was intercepted for a random breath test on the Brooker Highway, Hobart, in the early hours of this morning and recorded a reading of 0.098. The officer had not been drinking on police premises.
The Hobart-based officer has been issued with an infringement notice for the offence, which is the normal practice for a reading of this level. The notice imposes a fine of $260 and a three-month driving disqualification period. The officer will also be subject to internal disciplinary action.
“We take all matters of drink-driving extremely seriously and are disappointed that a member of Tasmania Police has not heeded the public safety message that we, as an organisation, are continually reiterating to the Tasmanian community,” said the Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard.
