Police officer charged
A Tasmania police officer has been charged with exceeding the prescribed limit after a single vehicle crash at 1.10 am this morning on the East Derwent Highway, Risdon.
The officer, who was off duty and driving a private vehicle, recorded a reading of 0.232. He was issued an Excessive Drink Driving notice which automatically disqualifies him from driving for 12 months.
There were no passengers in the vehicle.
He will appear in court on a later date. The circumstances of the incident will be reviewed before a decision is made on internal disciplinary action.
"Road safety is a priority for Tasmania Police and we take all drink driving matters extremely seriously," said Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard.
