Police investigating after six people injured in OMCG assault
Police are investigating an assault where six people were injured by Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members in Devonport.
About 1am Sunday, two men were outside McDonalds in Devonport CBD when three to four men exited a ute with interstate plates in the drive-thru and approached them.
One of the victims was kicked in the ribs, and the other was hit to the jaw. The offenders then left the scene in the ute.
The same two victims were in the Rooke Street Mall with friends about 20 minutes later when they were approached again by the same offenders.
The offenders then assaulted the two men again, as well as their friends, leaving six people with injuries.
Two people were knocked unconscious, and four of the six victims were taken to hospital with various injuries.
The offenders fled the scene following the incident.
Police quickly identified the offenders as interstate OMCG members or supporters, and are following a specific line of inquiry.
Western District Commander Stuart Wilkinson said the gang members were on notice.
“Anyone involved in Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, whether that be directly or indirectly, is not welcome in our community,” Commander Wilkinson said.
“Tasmania is a safe place, and we will not stand for the violence and sheer thuggery witnessed during these assaults on the weekend.”
