Police investigate ram raids in Hobart and Glenorchy

Hobart and Glenorchy CIBs are conducting enquiries in relation to three burglaries and an attempted burglary of businesses in the Hobart and Glenorchy area overnight.

 

At about 10.30pm a report was received of an attempted burglary at a tyre business in Barrack Street, Hobart.  A dark coloured Nissan Patrol 4 x 4 with white Sunraysia wheels was seen at this incident by a witness. A window to the business was smashed, however entry was not gained.

 

A further burglary occurred at around 11pm at a tyre business in Derwent Park.  A brown Nissan Patrol 4×4 vehicle was seen at this business which had been entered by ramming the front glass window.  A small amount of cash was stolen and a significant amount of damage caused. A brown Nissan Patrol was reported stolen on 8 March from Lenah Valley.

 

This vehicle was later recovered by police in Wyndham Road, Claremont at about 2.20am.

 

A further burglary involving a ram raid occurred at a service station in Argyle Street, Hobart at about 5am.  This business door was rammed causing extensive damage and an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal an ATM.  This burglary involved a white Nissan Patrol 4 x 4. A white Nissan Patrol was reported stolen at about 1.30am from Montrose.  This vehicle has not been recovered at this stage.

 

At about 7.30am police received a report of a ram raid at a store in Bowen Road, Moonah that had occurred sometime overnight.  This store was entered by smashing the front door with a vehicle and a small amount of cash stolen.

 

A man is in police custody and assisting police with their enquiries.

 

Detectives and Forensic Police are examining the scenes and vehicles.
