Police and emergency services were called to a report of a person being seriously injured after they fell 5m from the Christmas Tree in Launceston’s Brisbane St Mall about 11.30pm last night.

A 33 year old South Australian man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances which led to the man falling from the tree.

“Police would like to remind everyone to stay safe especially at this time of year when many people consume alcohol,” Inspector Michael Johnston said.

“We want people to have fun but not put their lives, or other people’s lives at risk.”
