Police investigate George Town arson
Detectives from Launceston CIB currently have a 29 year old Weymouth man in custody in relation to a deliberately lit fire which occurred at the workshop of Nortas Drilling in Main Road, George Town on the weekend.
Police and emergency services were called to the business on Sunday 28 January about 8.30pm, after an object near the wall of the workshop was set fire to. This in turn caused the fire to spread to the workshop structure itself. An early estimate of damage is placed at approximately $50,000.
“Thanks to the swift action of members of the public and emergency services, the fire was extinguished quickly by Tasmania Fire Service,” Det Inspector Burk said.
“Police would like to thank members of the George Town community who have provided information to police which has greatly assisted the investigation of this matter.”
