Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash – Prospect Vale
Police are investigating a fatal crash between a black Ford Ranger and a pedestrian on Knox Street, Prospect Vale, about 11am today.
The pedestrian was a 30 year old man from Prospect Vale and despite the efforts from members of the public rendering first aid, the man unfortunately died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The Ford Ranger left the crash scene prior to police arrival and was seen to drive erratically through Prospect, West Launceston and areas of the Launceston CBD. The driver of the Ford Ranger was involved in a separate incident in Margaret Street Launceston and again left the area prior to police arriving.
The Ford Ranger was later located at an address in Trevallyn where a 30 year old Prospect man was taken into custody without incident. The Ford Ranger was seized by police.
Police from Northern Crash Investigation Services, Launceston CIB and uniform police attended the scenes and those investigations are continuing.
The suspect is currently in police custody at Launceston Police Station but is yet to be formally interviewed or charged.
Police would like to thank the public for the excellent work in providing information in regard to the Ford Ranger that lead to it being located. Police would like to speak to anyone who has not yet contacted police who may have seen a black Ford Ranger driving erratically in the Prospect, CBD, West Launceston and Trevallyn area this morning and who may also have dashcam footage of the Ranger.
