Police investigate fake $100 notes on North West Coast

Detectives from the Devonport CIB are investigating the use of a number of counterfeit $100 notes in the North West Coast area.

The notes have been passed at 4 businesses across the region over the weekend of the 23 to 26 March 2018.

The notes are distinguishable by the following features:

  • They do not have the Australian coat of arms visible through the note when held up to a light source.
  • They are constructed of paper, not plastic.
  • The clear window located on the end of the note is black.
  • They lack the 7 pointed star when held to a light source.

People are urged to be vigilant and should contact police should they suspect notes that appear to be counterfeit and handle them as little as possible.
