Police investigate death on Port Sorell Main Rd

Police are continuing to investigate after a 21 year old man from East Devonport died after being hit by a car on Port Sorell Main Road near East Devonport sometime after 4am today.

Two people came forward to police this morning and have been interviewed.

No charges have been laid at this time.

The section of road was closed until about 11.00am.

Detective Inspector Kim Steven said:

“Our thoughts go to the man’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of his death including, of course, events leading up to him being struck by the car.

“As part of the investigation we’re very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the man walking along the road or who saw the car in the early hours of this morning,” he said.

The man’s immediate next of kin has been informed and will give consideration to releasing his name at a later stage.

Anyone who saw a late model black Isuzu D Max Dual Cab Utility with a solid canopy or a man walking along the road in that area in the early hours of this morning is asked to call police on 131 444.
