Police investigate armed robbery

At about 2250 hours on Thursday, 3 May 2012,  a male armed with a sawn-off shot gun  has entered the Coles Supermarket situated at Charles Street, Launceston.  The offender has then demanded money from the male staff member who was serving a customer at the time of the incident . He then fled the store on foot with a small amount of cash.

The offender was last seen running across Charles Street to a waiting vehicle parked behind the Caltex Service Station.

The male person is described as aprroximately 170cm in height, average build, aged in his 40’s wearing white gloves, a hoodie and dark clothing.  His face covered with a balaclava or similar type clothing.

No persons were injured during the robbery. The matter is currently being investigated by detectives from the  Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch.  Any person who may of witnessed the incident or have any information regarding the identity of the offender are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
